Maintaining your Car's Transmission

- Do not park your car where it could potentially be submerged in 16 inches of water. Should you park your car, only to return to find that it
is submerged in 16 inches of water or more, do not
attempt to start or operate the vehicle. . Call for a tow vehicle! Have it taken to a competent transmission specialist.
- Winter precautions and preventive maintenance vary geographically. Consult your owner's manual or your dealer for precautions specific to your situation.
- Make sure you’re using the right type of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) for your car by checking the owner’s manual.
- There’s a lot you can learn about the condition of your transmission just by examining the fluid. If your fluid is anything but clean, clear with virtually no odor, it is best to have your transmission checked.
- The most common cause of automatic transmission failure is heat. Keep your cooling system in great shape. Avoid hard accelerations.
- Servicing your car’s automatic transmission regularly can dramatically extend its life.
- Low engine coolant levels will cause severe transmission leak.
